What You're Practicing
About collagen peptides:
- Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body — found in skin, joints, bones, and connective tissue.
- Hydrolyzed collagen peptides dissolve completely in hot or cold liquids with zero flavor.
- Most studies use 10–20g daily. Effects on skin elasticity show after 4–8 weeks of consistent use.
- Vitamin C is required for collagen synthesis — citrus fruits in this smoothie serve double duty.
- Marine collagen (from fish) absorbs slightly better than bovine (from cows), but both work.
Supplement add-ons (nutritional impact per serving):
- Whey protein (1 scoop, 30g): +120 cal, +25g protein. Combined with the 20g from collagen, this hits 45g total protein — enough for a full post-workout meal. Vanilla flavor works best with the tropical fruit base.
- Vitamin C powder (500mg): +0 cal. The orange in this recipe provides ~70mg vitamin C, but supplementing to 500mg ensures maximum collagen synthesis support. Ascorbic acid adds slight tartness that complements the citrus.
- MCT oil (1 tbsp, 14g): +130 cal, +14g fat. Adds creaminess and sustained energy. The fat also helps absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) from the fruit.
- Turmeric (1/2 tsp, 1.5g): +4 cal. Contains curcumin, a potent anti-inflammatory compound. Bioavailability increases 2000% when combined with black pepper (add a tiny pinch). Adds golden color and warm, earthy flavor.
